Precision Prosthetics, Inc. was started by Edward G. (Skip)
Martin in 1987. The company is owned and operated as a family
business by him and his wife Karen.
A motorcycle accident in 1971 during his senior year, resulted
in a below-knee amputation which focused his interest into
prosthetics. Martin received his Prosthetic degree in 1973
at Northwestern Medical University in Chicago, Illinois. This
in turn directed his goal towards creating unique prosthetic
designs that provide ultimate comfort and function for himself
and each of his patients.
Martin quotes "Loss of a limb has to be one of the most
difficult ordeals for any human to mentally and physically
accept. Immediately following amputation, patients suffer
from pain, grief, and a lack of understanding of what the
future holds for them. At this critical time, it is necessary
for an empathetic prosthetist to express a genuine concern
toward the amputee in order to develop a trust which will
guide the way to their mental and physical rehabilitation."
Martin and his staff believe their constant support of positive
attitudes has resulted in the continuing growth
of their patients contentment. Precision Prosthetics, Inc.
has grown from a one man operation to a six person company,
built by word of mouth from satisfied patient referrals. The
staff currently employs two full service Prosthetist: Martin,
and Anthony Elliott; three prosthetic technicians: Calvin
Shaw, Tim Skorupa, and Zack Martin; Office Manager: Maureen
Hodge; Vice President: Karen Martin. Tim has been a patient
of Skip's and through their friendship and devotion to help
amputees, Tim now became part of the family. Each practitioner
takes a part in understanding their patient's lifestyle so
that they can offer their own exclusive quality of care and
unique workmanship.
A patient of Precision Prosthetics has available any design
for upper or lower extremity with combined experience of the
personnel dating back over 50 years. Anything from an electronic
fore-quarter arm prosthesis, to a specially designed partial
foot prosthesis can be fabricated on site.
Standard Prosthetics at Precision are more technologically
advanced in design than the usual-and-customary limbs normally
received. A recent design discovery, became a standard way
prosthetics are fitted at Precision increasing the comfort
level and long term, high activity wearability of the prosthesis.
